A Few Pictures

I wanted to share a few pictures of the ATC Spinners I did for my parents and in-laws for Christmas. I kept them fairly simple to keep the focus on the pictures, but I'm happy with how they came out. My parents absolutely loved theirs and I'm sure my in-laws will too. As soon as Canada Post sees fit to deliver it. LOL

What's New?

I've been busy working on Christmas presents for my parents and in-laws. I'm making them each an ATC spinner full of photos of the kids including all their school pics from primary until now (grades 3 & 5). I'm also working on clipboard calendars for the teachers like this one I did for the KC crop last month.

I've also given my blog an update thanks to the great pre-made pages at Shel's Scraps. I love how easy she makes it so easy to freshen up your blog without having to spend a lot of time on it.

My first Layout is up at Creatively Yours

I was so excited yesterday to see my first layout on the Creatively Yours blog! I used Noella's sketch #43 which was so much fun to work with. The sketch had so many great elements in it and it worked perfectly with pictures I took during our first winter storm a couple of weeks ago.

C Y Layout

I should have posted this earlier, but here is the layout I submitted to Creatively Yours for their DT call. I used Noella's 6" x 12" Sketch #3.

Incredible News!

I absolutely love doing layouts from sketches and when I saw a Design Team call for a Canadian sketch blog called Creatively Yours, I just had to apply. This morning I received an e-mail from Ali and Noella and I made the team!!! I am absolutely over the moon and I can't wait to get the first sketch to work with.

Exciting Fun Happening at 2 of My Favourite Places

First of all Lovebug Scrapbooking has the Lovebug Apprentice game. It started Monday November 10th (sign ups will remain open until the 14th) on the Lovebug forum. The game will run through the New Year so lots of time for fun, inspiration and competition. Kat puts on the best games and I guarantee you will get lots of scrapping done and have a ton of fun!

Then on November 21st - 23rd, Kindred Creations is hosting the 12 Challenges of Christmas Crop .
There will be lots of ideas for fast and easy Christmas gifts, cards, tags and more. There will even be a combo of paper, digi and hybrid projects. No matter how you like to scrap we will have something for you. As an added bonus the digi kit designers will be putting together a special kit to put up as a prize. Hope to see you there.

A New Layout

It's been quite a while since I posted a new paper layout, so I thought I would share one I did for the October Layout Tag at Kindred Creations.

Actually it is a hybrid layout as I designed and wrote the journaling tag on the computer and then printed it off.

Also, if you have an HP computer and want a HP external hard drive, Staples (in Canada) has a great deal on HP's 500 GB Personal Media Drive. I picked one up today for $108.99 which is $88 off of their regular price. I am so happy to finally be able to get all my photos and digital kits backed up properly.

Midnight Bandit

We can't seem to keep bird seed in our bird feeders and it's not the birds that are getting fat. LOL We live in the country and the raccoons have realized that our bird feeders are the perfect place to come for a midnight snack.

This layout was done with my Autumn Dreams digi kit.

To celebrate joining my first store I put together set of felt elements to give you as a freebie.

Font Insanity

When I was only doing paper scrapbooking I downloaded all kinds of fonts to use for journaling. I didn't pay any attention to the licenses that with each font because they were only for personal use. Now that I'm designing digital kits, I'm realizing just how important those licenses are. I really need to know what is okay for commercial use and what isn't. So today I went through all the fonts on my computer and sorted them into commercial use and personal use. It took me most of the afternoon and there are still a few I'm not sure of (I put them in the personal file just to be safe) but now when I use a font to make word art or an alpha, I can be sure I'm not breaking the law. LOL

It's My Favourite Time of Year

No not fall, although that is a close second, but the start of hockey season.  Registration is done and I am very lucky this year because both my son and daughter are on the same team.  They have been playing against each other in hockey school and 3 on 3 and trying to cheer for them both at the same time is a challenge. LOL  I'm excited to see them playing on the same team and hopefully I'll get a chance to help out behind the bench like I did last year. We're also looking forward to the start of the NHL season. We used to live in Calgary and are huge fans of the Calgary Flames. Our Saturday night ritual of popcorn and HNIC (Hockey Night in Canada) will be making its return next weekend.

My name is Merrilee and I'm proud to be a hockey Mom!

A Wonderful Blog and a New Look

I just discovered a great blog called Shel's Scraps. It is full of wonderful backgrounds you can use for your blog and they are all free. There is a colour scheme and style to suit just about everyone. I picked a background called 'Circle Craze' and with Shel's instructions it was so easy to change the layout on my blog.

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Thank You!

I just want to thank all of those who have downloaded my portion of the Cornucopia of Color kit. This is my first time participating and I am so thankful that people have liked what I created. Thank you!

For those of you that don't know the blog train is a collaborative digi kit put together by Aspiring Digi Scrap Designers(ADSD). In this months train there are close to 50 designers who are sharing some great work.

Here are the previews of my portion with the download links and below are links to the rest of the designers portions.

This didn't make it into the kit I just finished, so I thought I would offer it up as a freebie.

It's Been A While!

I thought I'd post a little update since I haven't been around much this month. I'm currently working on 3 more digi kits, one of which will be a part of the ADSD blog train on Sept. 1st. I've also signed up for Valerie Salmon and Janna Wilson's Got Sketch 102 class. I had so much fun with their first class, I can't wait to start the second.

We're also getting into the start of hockey. My son and daughter both play and I am on the executive so that makes for a busy season. Right now the kids are both in hockey school, then the tryouts for the AAA and girl's teams start, then 3 on 3, then pre-season practices and then the actual season finally starts in October. I have to admit I LOVE being a hockey Mom and I wouldn't have it any other way. It does make for a crazy schedule though! LOL

I learned something new today.

I can save a document I create in Corel Wordperfect as a PDF file. I'm sure most of you know how to do that already, but for me it was a revelation. It also solved a problem I have had communicating via e-mail with people who have MS Word. Everyone has Adobe Acrobat to read PDF files. It's the small things that make me happy. LOL

My First Digi Kit! And it's a Freebie!

I finally finished my first kit. It's called Glass Mosaic and I'm fairly happy with how it came out. It's not as elaborate as some of the kits I've admired by others, but I'm a pretty simple scrapper and I think I'll stick to what I know. I have to confess that there is so much more I want to learn about digital design and I hope my next kit will be even better.

To celebrate completing this kit, I am putting it up as a freebie for anyone else who likes it.

Download the elements here.
Download the paper here.

* I couldn't have made this kit without the help of CU products by Anne Schlegel, Graziela Mendes, Monique Gascon and Atomic Cupcake. I apologize for not putting that in my TOU but I will next time.

I Did It!

I created a set of digital brads. Just a small thing I know, but they are the first items I have created completely on my own without using any CU products. There are 5 in the set and they match a kit I am putting together, ever so slowly.

I'm giving them away as a digital freebie. If you like them you may download them here.

Garage Sale Finds.

I was at a local garage sale yesterday and discovered one of the sellers has a scrapbook store in New Minas. Which is only 45 minutes from me, much better than the hour and 45 minutes it takes to get to the one in Halifax. Even better, the lady had brought part of her store to the garage sale and I was able to get a set of the Doodlebug flocking and their 'Stick with It' adhesive transfers to use with it. Very cool! I can't wait to play.

Congrats Silvia! I just need your address and I'll get your RAK out on Monday.

Thanks everyone for some great ideas. Now to get working on that list.

Ocean Friends Charity Digi Kit

Some of you may remember I was working on some journaling cards for a charity kit for the Shriner's hospital in Chicago. Anne Schlegel of Creative Dreams has finished coordinating the kit and it in now up for sale here. So many designers contributed there is 600 MB of digi goodness in this 2 part kit. The paper pack has over 120 different papers and there are 385 accents and elements in the element pack. All that for only $5 for each pack and all the proceeds go to the Recreational Therapy Department at Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in Chicago. Anne even has a free word art to coordinate with the kit up on her blog. Enjoy!

BINGO!! And a RAK!

I have been a bingo addict since my Granny took me to the Ex in Toronto for the first time when I was 4. She didn't really mean to get me hooked, it was just her only chance for a rest from me dragging her everywhere to see everything. LOL

I don't get a lot of opportunities to play anymore aside from the local fair (yes, I've got my kids hooked on it now too) and a school fundraiser. So, whenever I can, I play bingo online at Kindred Creations. It's played a little differently than traditional bingo, but it's still a lot of fun. The winner gets a prize from the hostess for the month and in turn gets to host the next months bingo. Believe it or not, I won July's Bingo today. Now I have to come up with a theme to base the words(100) for next months bingo on. In the past the themes have included scrapbook companies, flowers, birds, summer activities, christmas, holidays, beer, etc. Pretty much anything goes and I haven't a clue what I'm going to pick for next months bingo.

Would you care to help me? Post a theme that I could base a list of 100 words around by Friday, July 25, 8pm AST and I will put all the ideas into a draw for a RAK from my overlarge stash.

I have to eat my words.

I was talking with my sister on Sunday and saying how much I disliked Basic Grey's Euphoria line. I'd only seen the ads in the magazines and as much as I like the colours individually, the line just seemed too much. KWIM

Well, I saw it IRL at the Cutting Garden in Halifax yesterday and it is much nicer than I thought. There aren't any solids in this line, what appear to be solids in the pictures on BG's website actually have subtle patterns on them. I bought 4 of them (arcadia, elation, helio and eden). I also bought 'felicity' which is one of the bigger patterns. The boldest patterns still aren't to my taste, but they were nowhere near as bad as I thought they would be. I guess it just reminds me why I don't like to order online; I need to see things in person to know if I really like it or not.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Have you had a chance to see this movie yet? It stars Brendan Fraser. We took our son(10) and his friend to see it tonight and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a pretty entertaining movie. Our daughter(8) found it a little scary so I wouldn't recommend it for younger children.

I Can't Believe It!

I won a prize playing Bugzee at Lovebug. I won a gift certificate for the Lovebug store. They usually have a fantastic clearance sale in August, so I think I'll wait and shop then.

Thursday, July 10, 2008

I've been busy working on layouts for the Lovebug Bugzee contest. I actually scrapped most of my Canada day pictures already. Now if I could just get caught up on my pile of older pics. LOL Here is one of the layouts I did this week.

It's Baseball Season

My son played his first game last week and I've done my first layout.
I painted the chipboard alphas for the title and then stamped them with a baseball stamp my sister gave me for Christmas. I love the effect.

A New Look

I thought I'd try out a new look for my blog. Let me know what you think.

I'm Addicted!

To online scrapping contests that is. LOL I started the month with Willow Traders' Scrapvivor and now I'm playing Love Bug's Bugzee. It's a scrappy version of Yahtzee and I got 3 more layouts done this week. I'm fast running out of album space and I'm happy. That's a good problem for a scrapper to have. Here's my favourite layout of the 3.

Awesome Customer Service!

The grid lines on my Making Memories paper trimmer have started to wear off and it's hard to measure accurately with it. I went to their website and put in a complaint about it and I immediately got a reply that a new trimmer would be sent out. Wow! It arrived today and I am so happy. I commend Making Memories for their great customer service!

A Little Update

I'm officially eliminated from Willow Traders Scrapvivor. Not a surprise. It was an exciting game to play, but I don't think I could do it again. It's not for a slow scrapper like me. LOL Once again I have to say how impressed I am with the ability of those still in the game to produce quality layouts at such a pace. Way to go ladies!

Scrap Overload

I just can't keep up with those amazing ladies at Willow Traders. I've been lucky to get 2 or 3 layouts done per challenge and many of them have done 10, 20 or even more. I am in awe!

I did get this digi layout finished for the challenge ending today. I'm dedicating it to my husband, the hardest working man I know.

Sunday, June 8, 2008

The theme for challenge #3 is using song, book and movie titles for the layout title. I am having lots of fun with it. So far I have used Billy Joel's 'Sometimes a Fantasy' to describe my collection of fantasy and sci-fi books and Toby Keith's 'Your Smile' for a layout about my niece. Need to put on my thinking cap for some more ideas.

New Scrapbook Community

Have you heard of Scrapbook Faves? It started out as a site where you could share links to your favourite scrapbook ideas with other scrappers. As of Monday they have added a forum to the site and made a great site even better. I hope you'll check it out.

My Scraproom

It is finally just about organized the way I want it and I thought I would share a few pictures. I still would like to cover the plywood desk top and I have some organizing yet to do on the sewing side of my room, but I'm happy with what I have now.

This is the left side of my desk. The parts cabinets hold all my little embellies like brads, buttons, eyelets, photo turns and more. I have button jars and flowers on top of the cabinets and more flowers on the shelf. My pens and paintbrushes are in ceramic planters I picked up at Dollarama.

This is the right side of my desk. I have a home made version of a Clip it UP in the corner and all my loose ribbon in jars (also from Dollarama) on the shelf. The desk organizer holds mailing envelopes, a mini Cutterpede, notepaper, chalks and a few other things.

At the end of the desk, I have wire racks with all my paper, cardstock and albums. On the peg board there is all my acrylic stamps, Fancy Pants and BG chipboard, other assorted chipboard, bling, and other items in original packaging that don't fit elsewhere. The shadow box holds all my inks, embossing powders, stickles, Twinkling H2O's and punches.

This is the island my husband built for me. The top came from an old coffee table I picked up at an auction. On the other side I have drawers to hold my Cuttlebug and dies, trimmer, circle cutter, ribbon spools etc.

On the wall to the right of the wire racks, is the door, then a file cabinet and my sewing machine cabinet. On the last wall I have a large unit with bins for fabric and patterns on the bottom and a shallow shelves on top where I keep collectibles. Hopefully I'll be able to post pics of that area next week.

Got Sketch 101

There have been two pre-class sketches posted for the Got Sketch 101 class and I have to say if they are a sample of what is in store for us, I am sooo glad I signed up. I combined the 2 of them for a 2 page Christmas layout and I am really happy with how it turned out.

Monday, May 26, 2008

It's Monday!

And time for a little update on what I've been doing.

I have finished a set of digital journaling cards for the 'Ocean Friends' collaborative kit Anne is putting together. The kit will go an sale July 15th at Creative Dreams and all money raised goes to the recreational therapy department at Shriners Chicago. And if you check out the Creative Dreams Blog right now, Anne not only has a great digi glitter tutorial but she also has a CU glitter tile freebie.

I've also signed up for the 'Got Sketch 101' class being taught by Valerie Salmon and Janna Wilson. It starts June 9th and runs for 3 weeks.

At the same time I am going to try to keep up with the Willow Trader Scrapvivor contest which starts June 1st. Although given the number of talented scrapbookers participating, I could be eliminated before the Got Sketch class even starts. LOL

Truly Inspiring!

I have started working on my first digital elements. Just journaling cards so far, but it's a start. I was inspired by Anne Schlegel from ASB/Creative Dreams and her daughter Tiana. At Tiana's request, Anne is creating a special kit and the proceeds from the sale of the kit will go to the recreational therapy department at the Shriners Hospital in Chicago. Read more about the story behind the kit at Anne's blog.

A Couple More Layouts.

This one is a lift of a layout by Carrie Postma (from Personal Scrapper).

And this one is for a monthly challenge on ASB called 'Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life'. (What you do is scrap the alphabet, at least 1 entry for each letter, all of the little, ordinary things in your life. Pages can be big or small, with or without pictures. No rules really except you should have at least 1 entry for each letter.)

I have one more layout and a couple of cards yet to finish, but I have to say NSD was the most productive scrapping I have done in a while.

A Few Pictures and Layouts For You.

First here are a couple of pictures from the Paper-Arts-A-Thon(PAAT). The first is the place setting that greeted us when we arrived. The small square box held a lovely beaded bracelet.

Next are samples of a few of the Make and Takes. Some still need to be completed. The beautiful gift bag was designed by my sister Amber. I can now reveal that she was the surprise guest celebrity from the PAAT blog.

Now on to some of the layouts I completed. I used a lot of sketches (especially from Basic Grey's newsletters) and NSD challenges from Lovebug Scrapbooking and Personal Scrapper.

I have to say that this just might be my favourite layout ever! I used 2 different BG sketches (July and November 2007) and combined them with 2 different challenges and it is just perfect. IMHO

Another BG sketch (March 2008) combined with a challenge.

Yet another BG sketch (January 2007) combined with a challenge. LOL

Just a Quick Update.

Amber and I got home at 5:30 this morning after an incredibly successful Paper-Arts-A-Thon. This wonderful group of paper crafting women raised over $11,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation! I hope to have pictures from the event uploaded tomorrow. I didn't get a chance today, as I just had enough time for a few hours sleep before my son's hockey party. Myleta and her dream team are planning on hosting another event next year with a different charity to benefit and I can't wait!

Only 18 Hours To Go!

And then Amber and I will be at the Paper-Arts-A-Thon. I can't wait! It's been over a year since I have been to a crop. I'm all packed except for a few more photos. I just realized I've never done a layout about DS and his glasses and he's had them for 7 months. So guess whose picture I'll be printing tonight. lol I hope everyone has a great NSD weekend!

New Kits Are Up at Creative Dreams

I love the awesome kits Anne (ASB) gives us to design with! The kits for May are bright and fun and perfect for all those summer photos. They are available for sale at Creative Dreams, and as usual they are 50% off until the end of the month.

Here is a layout I did with the Fun in the Sun kit. The papers worked so well with other items I had in my digi stash.

And here is one I did with the Summer Sherbet kit. The fun colours really helped me capture the feeling I wanted for this layout.

Only 9 More Days!

Until my sister Amber and I go to the Paper-Arts-A-Thon in Middleton. I can't wait! They just updated their blog with a list of stamps and die cut machines they will have available for use. The organizer has even put together a Card Idea album that uses many of the stamps. How cool is that! Now my biggest problem is what to bring to a 20 hour crop. Amber is nice and organized and planning just to bring page kits, but I'm one of those scrappers who likes to bring everything but the kitchen sink. Since the crop is so close to home and I'm driving, I might just do that. LOL

Top 100

I'm so excited! My layout 'So Blue' made the Top 100 of 2007 list at Kindred Creations. If you have a chance, check out the Top 100 gallery. There is a lot of inspiration to be found there.

A Weekend of Scrapping.

I had lots of fun this weekend participating in the online crop at Kindred Creations and in the anniversary celebration at Willow Traders. I even got a challenge done for ASB. In total I got 4 paper layouts done and 1 digi. Not a lot for some people, but way more than I have been doing the last few months. Here are a couple of my favourites.

A Free Digi Kit at Creative Dreams

I love this digi kit by Anne Schlegel from Creative Dreams. And she is giving it away free to celebrate finishing her new homepage. Be sure to check out her blog because she has a few other freebies on there too.
